Q&A: A Boho Bride’s Guide to Creating Her EarthyAesthetic
.jpeg)
Think barefoot bliss, dried florals, and that “just stepped out of a Pinterest board” vibe—but with a Southern African soul. We caught up with Ayanda, a real bride whose boho wedding at Lake Chivero was equal parts earthy elegance and laid-back magic. From pampas grass to cultural prints, here’s how she brought her dreamy aesthetic to life (without breaking the bank).
💬 Q: What inspired your boho wedding vibe?
Ayanda:
I’ve always loved that raw, organic feel—natural textures, sunset tones, and everything a little wild and free. Pinterest gave me the initial vision, but I wanted it to reflect me, so I added African elements like mudcloth, wooden beads, and marula-scented candles.
🌾 Q: What were your must-have boho décor elements?
Ayanda:
Pampas grass and dried florals everywhere—from my bouquet to the arch.
Raw wood tables, paired with linen napkins and fringed placemats.
Handwoven baskets as centrepieces with eucalyptus bundles and candles wrapped in shweshwe print.
A triangle arch draped with macramé and florals was my statement piece.
👗 Q: What did you wear to tie into the boho feel?
Ayanda:
A flowing off-the-shoulder gown with sheer sleeves, minimal makeup, and a flower crown instead of a veil. I went barefoot for the ceremony—Lake Chivero sands underfoot felt so grounding.
💡 Q: How did you keep it budget-friendly?
Ayanda:
DIY was my best friend! We foraged some florals, printed signage ourselves, and used décor I borrowed from family. Also, working with local suppliers from Zimbabwe kept costs low and the quality high.
🌍 Q: Any tips for other Southern African boho brides?
Ayanda:
Don’t be afraid to mix cultures—use local textiles and heritage pieces.
Choose a venue that already has natural beauty, like Lake Chivero, Chimanimani, or a game reserve.
Prioritise lighting—fairy lights and candles go a long way.

📸 Bonus: Ayanda’s Favourite Moment?
"Dancing under the stars with my husband, surrounded by our people, barefoot, and wrapped in love. It was perfectly imperfect—exactly the boho magic I dreamed of."
