Groomsmaids, Mix-Matched Dresses & Flower Dudes – It Was a VIBE
Gone are the days of cookie-cutter bridal parties. These couples threw out the rulebook—and gave us flower dudes, groomsmaids, and squad fashion that deserves a standing ovation. If your wedding party is more about personality than protocol, then this post is your mood board.
Let’s get into four weddings that totally got the assignment.
🎩 1. Groomsmaids in Velvet & Vibes – Lusaka Rooftop Wedding
The Couple: Chipo & Daniel
Wedding Vibe: Metropolitan Magic
Bridal Party Setup: Two best girls on the groom’s side. No apologies.
Daniel’s two childhood BFFs—Tasha and Brenda—stood proudly as groomsmaids, rocking emerald green velvet jumpsuits with gold heels. Their looks were coordinated but not identical, with one in wide-leg pants and the other in a mini tuxedo dress. The bridesmaids wore soft peach gowns for contrast, and the entire crew looked straight out of a fashion shoot.
Highlight Moment: The groomsmaids gave speeches that were the perfect mix of roast and toast. Laughter, tears, and a standing ovation.
🌺 2. The Flower Dude That Broke the Internet – Cape Town Vineyard Wedding
The Couple: Aimee & Sihle
Wedding Vibe: Winelands Elegance meets Boho
Bridal Party Setup: 1 flower dude + 4 barefoot bridesmaids = iconic
Instead of a traditional flower girl, Aimee’s cousin walked down the aisle tossing petals from a fanny pack, sipping rosé and striking poses to Beyoncé. The bridesmaids followed in boho-chic white dresses (mismatched, of course) with fresh flower anklets and tousled braids.
Highlight Moment: The flower dude’s slow-mo entrance was captured on a drone and still lives on as the wedding’s most rewatched moment.
💖 3. Mix-Matched Sorbet Dreams – Durban Garden Ceremony
The Couple: Thando & Kim
Wedding Vibe: Garden Party Goals x Modern Minimalist
Bridal Party Setup: Six bridesmaids, six shades, six slays.
Thando let her girls choose their own dresses—style, length, sleeves and all—as long as they stuck to soft sorbet shades. The result? A perfectly imperfect lineup of blush, mint, lemon and peach gowns that looked effortless yet elegant. Hair and makeup were kept simple to highlight each bridesmaid's unique beauty.
Highlight Moment: A TikTok dance reel of the entire bridal squad at golden hour—barefoot and bursting with joy.
💐 4. All Gender, All Style – Zimbabwean Homestead Wedding
The Couple: Tafadzwa & Nyasha
Wedding Vibe: Homestead Heirlooms x Afro-Chic
Bridal Party Setup: Groomsmen in Shweshwe trousers, bridesmaids in wrap skirts—and two flower dudes with mini mbiras.
This wedding blurred all the lines—and we loved it. From mixed-gender party sides to unisex colour palettes, everything was rooted in family, tradition, and freedom. Outfits were locally made using African prints and linen. Guests were seated in a kraal-style courtyard, and the bridal party made a celebratory entrance playing mbiras and ululating.
Highlight Moment: The flower dudes gave a mini musical performance before the vows. Culture + fun = perfection.
